Neurodiversity-Affirming Training

This CPD course integrates neurodiversity-affirming principles

Course Description

This Autism and ADHD Assessment Training provides a structured, evidence-informed framework for assessing and diagnosing Autism and ADHD in adults. It is designed for clinicians who want to move beyond surface-level DSM criteria and develop a deeper understanding of how neurodevelopmental conditions present across diverse adult profiles.

A central focus of the training is identifying internalised or masked presentations that may not align with stereotypical diagnostic expectations. You will learn how to recognise subtle social, sensory, executive functioning, and executive functioning patterns that are frequently overlooked, particularly in clients who have historically been misdiagnosed or dismissed.

The training aligns with the Autism CRC National Guideline for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism in Australia and the AADPA Australian Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline for ADHD. It integrates these contemporary frameworks with neurodiversity-affirming principles to support collaborative, respectful, and clinically rigorous assessment practice.

You will receive practical instruction in diagnostic interviews, screening tools, differential diagnosis, and report writing, with demonstration videos, structured case examples, and applied exercises to consolidate clinical reasoning and diagnostic confidence.

By the end of the training, you will have a clear, defensible, and structured approach to adult Autism and ADHD assessment that reflects current Australian standards and strengthens diagnostic accuracy.

Learning Objectives

By completing this training, you will be able to:

  • Identify how Autism and ADHD present in adults, including internalised and masked profiles
  • Recognise and assess AuDHD (Autistic + ADHD combined) presentations with clinical clarity
  • Apply a structured framework for differential diagnosis across overlapping conditions including OCD, BPD, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, and Social Anxiety
  • Select and interpret adult screening tools appropriately
  • Conduct and interpret MIGDAS-2 and DIVA-5 diagnostic interviews with confidence

What Clinicians Are Saying About my Autism & ADHD Assessment Training

Below are reflections from clinicians who have completed this training. Their feedback speaks to increased diagnostic clarity, stronger clinical reasoning, and greater confidence in assessing autism and ADHD in complex presentations.

I was really impressed with the quality of the Adult Autism & ADHD Diagnostic Assessment Training.  I love the way Amanda provides information about the historical and cultural context of these diagnoses as well as specific guidance around clinical practice. This is the best training I’ve done on the topic. I found it engaging and informative and would highly recommend it.

Dr Celeste Grant, Clinical Psychologist

I have just completed the Adult Autism and ADHD Diagnostic Training which was part of the Neurodiversity Assessment Bundle, and I fully recommend this to any professional who is already working within the diagnostic field or to someone who is hoping to branch out into assessment and diagnosis.

Amanda gives a perspective which expands the diagnostic criteria of the DSM-5, encouraging you to explore , enquire and be curious about the lived experiences of your clients.

Presented in a clear manner each section of the training was broken down to allow the trainee to fully follow the content.

Pauline Nicholson, Psychologist

I began my journey with Amanda's course on differential diagnosis, which I found to be exceptionally insightful. Driven by a desire to enhance my skills and a keen interest in ADHD and Autism, I enrolled in the ADHD and Autism assessment training. This training has provided me with a wealth of additional knowledge that I previously lacked. Having reviewed the training materials twice, I now feel confident in my ability to conduct assessments independently.

Amanda's passion for this field is evident in the extensive content she has developed, which has greatly facilitated my learning and effectiveness in this area. I am grateful to Amanda for her dedication and for making the learning process more accessible.

Thank you, Amanda, for your invaluable contributions.

Tamara Makhouli, Psychologist

I have just recently completed your Autism & ADHD assessment training online. Thank you for delivering such a thorough package. It's been really valuable.

Dr Manon Burgat, Clinical Psychologist

Hi Amanda. Just wanted to let you know how fabulous your Autism and ADHD training is!

I've been doing assessment for a bit and am always struggling to find trainings where I'm actually gaining insight- so grateful!

Caitlin Pinto, Psychologist

I have worked for over 20+ years, and my trauma PD from 2008 onwards with leaders in the field was life changing for my practice.

Your training is incredible! I want you to know. It covers everything I could possibly want to know, from basic to all the extra considerations and complexities. I am truly loving it, applying it already in sessions with clients, and am shortly about to commence formal assessment. Thank you so much for this PD. I’m excited to engage in the last parts.

Thank you again

Raquel Low, Counselling Psychologist

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your adult autism and ADHD assessment training. It has been enormously helpful. Thank you!

Erin Quigly, Educational & Developmental Psychologist

I’m doing the online, on demand version currently (of the autism and ADHD assessment training) and learning so much. Thoroughly impressed with this training!

Dr Megan Thomas, Clinical Psychologist

Loving it so far… It's easy to digest, delivered in a warm and approachable way and really helps to understand the nuance of neurodiversity. Highly, highly, recommend.

Kelly Martin, Psychologist

This training is wonderful, and Amanda’s knowledge is phenomenal! I would absolutely recommend doing her course.

Penni Moussa, Clinical Psychologist

It was absolutely awesome - so comprehensive!

I thought I knew a lot already, but thanks to Amanda my understanding of the nuances of internalised presentations and the AuDHD neurotype is refined!

I have a clear structure for the assessment processes and of how to collate qualitative and quantitative info and most importantly, interpret it using clinical judgement.

Highly recommend this training

Amiee Pember, Psychologist

I just completed your program: Adult Autism and ADHD Diagnostic Assessment Training. It was excellent! Unbelievably comprehensive, structured very well and super easy to follow. I now feel confident in my understanding of Autism and ADHD, and feel lucky to have gained such wisdom about masking/internalised presentations. I truly wish I had this learning during university and am so grateful I chose your program to gain this learning. I will be recommending your training to anyone that is interested in this space

Your Questions, Answered

What does the Autism and ADHD Assessment Training cover?

This training provides in-depth guidance on how to identify, assess, and diagnose autism and ADHD in adolescents and adults. You will learn how diagnostic criteria present in subtle, internalised, and less stereotyped ways, particularly in high-masking individuals.

The program covers differential diagnosis across overlapping DSM presentations, structured assessment processes from intake through to feedback, and the integration of key diagnostic tools such as the MIGDAS-2 and DIVA-5.

You will also have access to practical demonstration videos showing how I conduct diagnostic interviews in real-world practice, so you can see how the assessment process unfolds and how clinical judgement is applied in context.

Does the training include MIGDAS-2 training?

Yes. Comprehensive MIGDAS-2 (Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing Autism Spectrum) training is included in both:

  • The combined Autism & ADHD Diagnostic Assessment Training
  • The Autism Assessment Training

You will learn how to administer, interpret, and integrate the MIGDAS-2 within a broader diagnostic framework. This includes demonstration videos, case examples, and guidance on applying the tool thoughtfully within a neurodiversity-affirming assessment process.

The focus is not only on how to use the tool, but how to apply it with clinical judgement, particularly in subtle or high-masking presentations.

Do I need prior assessment experience to complete the Autism and ADHD Diagnostic Assessment Training?

No. Prior diagnostic assessment experience is not required.

This training provides comprehensive foundational knowledge and structured guidance for clinicians who are newer to autism and ADHD assessment. At the same time, it offers depth, nuance, and updated evidence-based frameworks for experienced clinicians seeking to refine or extend their skills.

Whether you are building your assessment skills from the ground up or strengthening an established practice, the training is designed to support your clinical judgement and confidence.

Will this training accredit me to diagnose Autism and ADHD?

This training provides comprehensive education and practical skills to support best-practice autism and ADHD assessment. However, eligibility to formally diagnose depends on your professional registration and scope of practice within your country or state.

In Australia, diagnosis is typically conducted by psychiatrists, paediatricians, and psychologists, with some specialist GPs also diagnosing ADHD in certain jurisdictions.

This training is designed to complement your existing professional qualifications. It strengthens the skills required for accurate and ethical diagnostic assessment but does not replace the need for appropriate registration, supervision, or regulatory approval.

For allied health professionals who may not formally diagnose, the training still provides valuable knowledge to support participation in multidisciplinary assessment and to strengthen understanding of autism and adhd presentations.

What is the format of the Autism and ADHD Assessment Training?

This training is fully self-paced, allowing you to complete the course according to your schedule. It is structured to provide comprehensive, practice-ready guidance on autism and ADHD assessment, with a strong focus on neurodiversity-affirming practice and clinical judgement.

The training includes:

Pre-recorded video modules
In-depth teaching, practical demonstrations, and step-by-step guidance on conducting adolescent and adult assessments. This includes MIGDAS-2 training and detailed instruction on integrating tools such as the DIVA-5 within a structured diagnostic framework.

Case demonstrations and examples
Real-world assessment examples showing how to approach complex and high-masking presentations, and how to apply theory in practice.

You will receive six months of access to the training materials, allowing you to revisit content as needed.

What will I learn by the end of the training?

By the end of the training, you will be able to:

  • Apply neurodiversity-affirming principles within diagnostic assessments
  • Understand how autism and ADHD present in subtle and high-masking ways
  • Differentiate autism and ADHD from overlapping DSM presentations
  • Integrate structured diagnostic tools such as the MIGDAS-2 and DIVA-5 within a broader clinical framework
  • Navigate complex and co-occurring presentations with greater diagnostic clarity
  • Conduct structured, defensible assessments with strengthened clinical judgement

The focus is on building confidence, clarity, and diagnostic precision in adolescent and adult diagnostic assessments.

Is the training CPD-approved? Does it count as active CPD?

Yes. The Autism and ADHD Diagnostic Assessment Training provides 16 CPD hours and can be logged toward your professional development requirements. The training includes practical components and reflective exercises, which meet criteria for active CPD for many registration pathways. Please confirm specific CPD requirements with your regulatory body.

Does the training include case studies and demonstration videos?

Yes. The training includes case examples and extensive demonstration videos where you can observe me conducting diagnostic interviews using tools such as the MIGDAS-2 and DIVA-5. These demonstrations allow you to see how assessments unfold in real clinical contexts and how clinical judgement is applied alongside structured tools.

How long will I have access?

You will receive six months of access to all training materials, including video modules and demonstration content.

This allows you to complete the training at your own pace and revisit material as needed.

Do you offer payment plans?

Flexible payment options are available through third-party providers such as AfterPay, and PayPal (where available).

Please note that these arrangements are between you and the payment provider. Access to the course is provided immediately upon purchase.

How do I access the training?

After enrolling, you will create an account on the website and gain immediate access to the training platform. The course can be accessed via desktop or through the mobile app, allowing flexible learning.

What devices can I use?

The training is compatible with laptops, tablets, and smartphones with an active internet connection.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. A certificate of completion is issued upon finishing the training. This can be used for your professional development records

What is the MIGDAS?

The MIGDAS-2 (Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing Autism Spectrum) is a structured, diagnostic interview framework for autism assessment. It supports identification of diverse presentations and aligns with neurodiversity-affirming practice. Comprehensive MIGDAS-2 training is included in both the combined Autism & ADHD Diagnostic Assessment Training and the Autism Assessment Training.

Is this training suitable for assessing children?

This training is primarily designed for clinicians assessing adolescents and adults. While some content may be informative for those working with children, many of the frameworks and tools taught are best suited to adolescent and adult diagnostic assessment.
