Neurodiversity-Affirming
Grounded in neurodiversity-affirming practice
Course Description
Providing neurodiversity-affirming therapy requires more than awareness. It requires a clear understanding of neurodevelopmental differences and the ability to adapt therapeutic approaches in meaningful ways.
As of December 2025, psychologists in Australia are expected to provide care to neurodivergent clients within a neurodiversity-affirming framework, in line with Competency 7 of the AHPRA Guidelines for Psychologists.
This training focuses on the practical application of neurodiversity-affirming principles when working with autistic and ADHD clients. The emphasis is on strengthening clinical reasoning, adapting therapy structures, and ensuring your approach aligns with ethical and evidence-based practice.
You will explore how to reframe autism diagnostic criteria through a strengths-informed lens, understand executive functioning differences in ADHD, and adjust therapy to account for sensory, communication, and processing differences.
The goal is to ensure you are providing clinically rigorous and ethically sound care that is responsive, respectful, and developmentally appropriate.
